Lake Constance and its places with viewpoints part 1

Schweizer Berge am Bodensee

Of the Enkirch parking space off, on the way to Lake Constance, we stayed overnight in Ettlingen. It was a parking space outside of Ettlingen and we slept well.

From Ettlingen we drove towards Lake Constance and had the hope that we would get a place on Lake Constance ourselves. When we arrived at Lake Constance, it was quite full and all campsites, parking spaces and parking lots were overcrowded with cars. There were so many people walking around, unbelievable. Holiday, what else did we expect. Everyone was on and in the water. Even Lake Constance was jam-packed with sailing boats and yachts.

Lake Constance

Lake Constance, which emerges from the Überlingersee, the Obersee and the Submarine puts together, has an area of 473 km². He can book 3 proportionate countries: Germany with the largest coastal area, Switzerland and then Austria with the smallest coastal area. Well-known places like Konstanz, Friedrichshafen and Bodman-Ludwigshafen are here on the coast. St. Gallen in Switzerland is also not that far away and in Austria it is Bregenz, which is on the coast. Lake Constance also has several islands to offer. The most famous are the flower island Mainau, the island Reichenau and the island Lindau.

Of course, Lake Constance also invites you to take part in sports activities. In almost every larger town directly on the lake there are of course small harbors with sailing boats and motor boats. You can also see some stand-up paddlers. Swimmers and anglers shouldn't be missing either. There is already a lot going on on Lake Constance.

Game and leisure park in Allensbach

Looking for a place to stay overnight, after driving for half an hour through the towns, we drove to the other side of Lake Constance in the direction of Constance. Then we have a place to stay in the Place Allensbach at a country inn right next to you Game and amusement park found. What we unfortunately did not consider is that the Whitsun holidays in Baden-Württemberg have been since the weekend.

We hope that despite everything, we will find a parking space right by the lake at some point in the next few days. The wildlife and leisure park is mainly located in the forest and therefore has pleasant temperatures even on hot days. There are even barbecue areas in the park. If you still want to eat well after this visit, stop by the Landgasthof Mindelsee and indulge yourself with home-style cuisine. Anyone who dines in the Landgasthof Mindelsee and wants to spend the night there with the mobile home leaves their license plate number with the staff and can then free stop there.

More information about the Landgasthof Mindelsee and the game and leisure park can be found here.

Mainau Island

After a good night's sleep we are on our way to Mainau Island. It is said that it should be temporarily closed, but it has already had some of what was stated as closed. We will see. The island of Mainau seems open, there is definitely a lot going on. You can only get to the island of Mainau with a ticket booked online in advance.

However, we thought that the prices would be so affordable that we might not even want to go to the island. We decided to just walk a bit near the island. So we walked a bit along the lake and got a little one Lookout point took a few photos of the island. The island can be visited all year round.

Schneckenberg lookout point

Then it went on to Schneckenberg lookout point with a parking lot in the middle of the forest behind a small town. From this vantage point on the Schneckenberg you have a wonderful view down to the Untersee from Lake Constance. Far behind you can see the Swiss mountains. We stayed here for a short time, took photos and let the dreamy panorama affect us.

Finja had fun and raved across the meadow and threw herself around and rolled around everywhere. There are also many indicated hiking trails through the forest to the nearby places.

After a short break for all of us, we set out to look for a parking space. What the vineyards are on the Moselle, there are many orchards and wine plantations here on Lake Constance. Along the road, as far as the eye can see, there are lots of small fruit trees.

Überlingen

On the way to Überlingen we had a glimpse of a weather phenomenon from the car. On a recently mown meadow, the hay screwed its way upwards in small circles, increasing in size. A little windpipe !! We had never seen anything like it either. Unfortunately, there was no way for us to stop anywhere and take pictures.

In Überlingen we then found a motorhome parking space, with supply and disposal and directly behind an Edeka market. We no longer thought about the windpants, we extended our awning. 2 hours later we had to drive them back in because of gusts. They weren't too bad, but they were so intense that we had trouble holding the awning.

After a short break, we said to ourselves that we really wanted to go to the water. We then ran a little lap with Finja, on which we two more Viewpoints with a fantastic view of Lake Constance and were able to take beautiful pictures. Here, too, we saw incredible panoramas of Lake Constance with Überlingen below.

However, we chose the wrong route and somehow walked via Goldbach and then back down the main road for a long time. That day it was super warm and even if it was late afternoon, we were still totally sweaty. Every possible access to Lake Constance was blocked because the state horticultural show was supposed to take place, but everything is still closed at the moment.

At the thermal bath we finally got to the water. However, there was no way to go into the water, because there is only the harbor and the promenade. And the only place was crowded with teenagers. So after the way back to the parking space, we had made a tour of 2 hours and were completely exhausted. But the place Überlingen with its promenade was very nice to look at.
