Norway part 10 - from "the seven sisters" to Overhalla

Sonnenuntergang bei Overhalla

at Clover necks was there another coastal fort that could have been seen. But we had already seen a lot in this regard and drove on. The coastal road along the fjords is just a dream. You look into the fjord from the road and have mountains on both sides. And these, too, keep changing.

There was now a section of chalky white rock with no vegetation and it looked really great. We notice again and again how Norway makes our hearts rise. There is something for everyone and we just love to drive, take pictures and “soak in” the impressions.

“The Seven Sisters” mountain range - not an easy hike

The coastal road was breathtaking. As so often, we stopped every now and then to take pictures. The mountain world has changed and is now mostly bare and chalky white. It just looks great. But here, too, the problem is that if you have a great view, you don't get any parking space to take photos. When we found a small parking lot for our lunch break, our view was obscured by trees, unfortunately. But luckily my husband has a drone and so he let it fly in order to be able to take a few photos of the mountains.

Then we continued along the coast, with a ferry to the mainland and over a beautiful bridge to the next small island. There we had first chosen a place to stay overnight at a bathing area by the sea, but when we got there it didn't speak to us. You stood behind bumps on gravel and had no view of the sea. And it was full, as it is also quite warm at the moment. So we drove on and have a parking lot for hikers at the Mountain range "the seven sisters" found.

The parking lot was also busy, but most of them were normal cars that would drive again in the evening. Since it was already relatively late, we all just ate something and ran a short lap later. Opposite there was a dirt road that we walked in and had a beautiful sunset and the sisters lit up in red. Looked really great. On a hiking sign, 3 hiking trails were shown to the sisters and it was clear to us that we would not get up. Many a stretch was already indicated as steep.

The next morning we started walking after coffee. The first part went through the forest and was a bit steep at the beginning. When we hit the rocks, we were a little confused. There are no signs to point the way, as we already knew in Scandinavia. However, there was no tree left from the rock and arrows were painted on the rock. We hadn't seen that before. How to walk to this arrow is up to you. Since we had Finja with us, we had to look for an easy way. Inevitably, our feet got wet again if we didn't have our hiking boots on.

We didn't hike that high as it was a bit exhausting to find your way over the rock and crevices. But especially for Finja, who often had to jump. But from the point we hiked to we could look back at the ocean and that was our destination. After 1 ½ hours we were back on the bus and satisfied. The sun was shining and since there was no breeze, we sweated a lot. It was still early when we got to the bus and after thinking about where we went, we drove on.

Trofors - discovered a beautiful waterfall by accident

To continue the coastal route, we would have had to use 2 ferries. Basti had looked on the Internet and said that we had paid quite a bit for it. So we thought about going back over the bridge and through the mountains to the E6. That wouldn't be too big a detour and we would be in Germany again to have a look at something there. At the bridge there was a nice rest area where we stopped for pictures and rubbish.

The way led us through our longest tunnel so far with 10.5 km, which led straight through the mountain. Simply unbelievable, you don't even know it. at Trofors we then drove to the other side of the river and a gravel back road into the forest. Before that, the refrigerator still needed filling. When we arrived at the place to stay, we discussed again whether it was suitable for us. While we were talking, he was snatched away from us by 2 other buses. I was hungry and tired and therefore also charged. Then I exploded briefly and walked a few meters on my own. Then it went again and we drove the road to the next point.

However, it wasn't that big either, so go on. We then drove over a wooden bridge that crossed a river and a super great waterfall. We hadn't even had it on our screen. A few hundred meters further on, we found a great place that was really big. First we went to the waterfall with Finja, photo equipment and a drone to take some photos.

It was a good way to get there. But it was worth it. The waterfall was really great, and loud! The water was crystal clear and slightly bluish, as if it came from a glacier.

Back at the bus there was quick food as it was already late. We let the evening fade away comfortably and since very few cars passed by, we would definitely sleep well. The night was super quiet and even in the morning a car only came by every hour. Since it was still quite nice and relatively warm, we took a shower before we continued.

After that we felt really good. Towards noon clouds came in, but it was still dry. Since we need drinking water, we will continue on the E6 and see where we turn back towards the coast.

Overhalla - small place by the river

On that day we made a good stretch. We got drinking water at a campsite and then drove on. We want to go back to the coast and so we turned in that direction at some point. Looking for a parking space, we have a small space in Overhalla found on the river. The route there was again super nice. It went up and down and along single roads. The small lawn was nicely on the river, which also flows into the North Sea. Since there was a small jetty and a boat was there in the water, we hoped that we would not stand in the way and that it would remain calm.

The sun was shining and we sat outside a lot. To our great joy we saw a bald eagle flying at our pitch. He always flew his territory and we were able to take a few photos with our telephoto lens.

In the evening we had a nice sunset with a few clouds and were able to take good pictures. We were protected from view by trees and bushes so that we did not disturb the residents. We thought about driving another 2-3 days along the coast and then to Trondheim. The night was super quiet and we slept well.

On the way to the coast Finja got gastrointestinal problems again, so we phoned friends from Norway and asked if they could recommend a vet to us, as we are slowly at a loss. Basti then checked the opening times of the veterinary clinic and so the trip goes straight to Trondheim. Since we would be arriving too late for the opening times, we looked for a place to stay near Trondheim, where it only took us 20 minutes to get to the clinic.

The place was a parking lot at a museum, which is only open on Sundays. The road itself was not used very much, so it was quiet and we slept well. Then it went on towards Trondheim.
