The Vesteralen<\/strong> are really nice, if only the weather would play along. However, it is really a challenge here with parking spaces if you are looking for something sheltered from the wind. And you also want to be mostly free. The islands really have a lot to offer, from fishing villages to white beaches to many short hikes. We would certainly have stayed longer, but the weather should only be nice for a few days and we want that on the Lofoten<\/strong> spend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hovden - harbor village with beautiful beaches<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

We continued south on Langoya. In Myre we filled up drinking water again and when Basti asked about it at the gas station, the lady said that there was even a bit of snow in the village that morning. And that in mid-July! It's unbelievable how the weather is going crazy here. We had chosen a place where we could dispose of our rubbish. This place was a resting place right after a tunnel, Riggedalen Tunnel, and surrounded on 3 sides by mountains. Directly at the tunnel, a small waterfall also ran down from the mountain. Since the weather should also be bad the next day, with rain and windy, we decided to stay here for 2 nights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the square we stood super sheltered from the wind and when we had a break from rain, we had a nice view of a lake on the 4 side. From this parking lot there was also a hiking trail up into the mountains, which some locals used on the second day. We then slept in, worked a bit and waited for the weather. Cars stopped in between to inspect the view and to dispose of their rubbish, but otherwise we stood quietly here. Finja was also happy to take a break and slept a lot. Running wasn't exactly her thing either, as it kept raining.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the way to Hovden<\/strong> we did some shopping. There is also a parking space at this supermarket and you can even get access to showers and washing machines via the market. We haven't seen that before either. But since we wanted to go on, we didn't use it. Hovden itself was a small harbor town. There they have a large meadow next to a parish hall where you can stand. The app that we use to search for accommodation said the night was free. So we ran first because it wasn't raining at the moment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The meadow lies between two super beautiful white beaches and the water here is turquoise. Finja had a lot of fun on the beach and let off steam. Across from the meadow in front of the second beach were many drying frames for fish. Quite a few fish heads were hanging on here, but they didn't smell because the wind was going in the other direction. We then walked to the harbor and there was a warehouse for fish here, and it stank a lot here. We then thought about how the residents can stand it in warm weather and a lot of fish.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the harbor we walked to the small lighthouse and took a lot of pictures. This place is also super beautiful again! We love such places. Back at the bus, we looked around at the parish hall to refill drinking water and found that this place is not free after all. But since it was later and we like to pay something for such churches, we stayed because it was really nice at the place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the way back from Hovden, we did another hike on a small mountain, the Bufjellet<\/strong>. This hike was not that strenuous because it was not a steep climb. However, there was sometimes a lot of stone rubble, which is why you had to be careful where you stepped. Once at the top you had a really nice view all around. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

You could see as far as Hovden, out to sea and a great beach a short distance from the trail parking lot. At the end we saw an eagle, but unfortunately it wasn't a sea eagle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In search of a nice parking space, we drove over the rest of the island. Unfortunately, apart from affordable seats, there was nothing that was sheltered from the wind and with the weather at the moment that was a priority. So we drove back to the tunnel and stood there for another night. There was nothing else on the island that we would have liked to look at and so we wanted to go the next day Lofoten<\/strong> travel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tengelfjord - the beginning of Lofoten<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

After a pleasant night we made our way towards Lofoten at noon. It's drizzling and cold again, so we don't have a guilty conscience about taking a day's driving. Basti went shopping in Sortland and then we drove over the bridge and had lunch. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The place was nice too, you had a nice view of Sortland and the fjord. Shortly before the Tengelfjord there was a bridge and in the middle a small island with a resting place. We then took another break there. There were historical sites here that were only hinted at, but still impressive as it was only a small island. You couldn't really imagine that there were huts and people lived here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then it went to Tengelfjord<\/strong>. Here we went to a parking lot right by the road and the fjord. Since there was very little traffic here and the houses weren't in the immediate vicinity, we stopped for the night. The fjord itself was totally overcast and you couldn't really see much. The next noon the cloud cover tore open and the sun came through. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

What a great view over the fjord and the bridge behind us. We then drove along the fjord, stopped every now and then for pictures and had hoped to find a nice spot for the night. Below is on the opposite side of the Trollfjord<\/strong>. However, you can only get there by boat or you have to hike for days on the island.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We drove to the end and found nothing. Either the places were already occupied or unsuitable for us. If you are so expecting to find something better with a great view, you will be disappointed if it doesn't work out. So we drove back to the starting point and stayed in the parking lot again. A cruise ship came into the fjord late in the evening. However, it was too late and we only saw it from the window.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Basti had a headache when he got up, because he slept rather obliquely that night and put strain on his neck. So I got the bus ready so that we could continue later. When Basti wanted to empty the urine tank, he found that the hose had a crack and that he had to patch it or cut it off first. Then it went on to the next island.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Die Vesteralen sind wirklich sch\u00f6n, wenn doch nur das Wetter mitspielen w\u00fcrde. Allerdings ist es hier mit Stellpl\u00e4tzen echt eine Herausforderung, wenn man etwas windgesch\u00fctztes sucht. Und man m\u00f6chte ja auch \u00fcberwiegend frei stehen.
